Aerial yoga

A disclaimer: personally I’m not a huge fan of yoga 🙂 I don’t dislike and actually even enjoy it sometimes, but to be fair I prefer more active and cardio activities:) I usually do yoga when I’m unwell or extremely tired.

Which is why I will not be in such ruptures about this activity as about the others 🙂 But I did take several classes of Aerial Yoga and I enjoyed them! They are very relaxing, something I would definitely recommend after a long workday or maybe on a weekend. It’s not extremely demanding physically (at least the classes I took, I bet it can be different) but there were some tough legs and stability exercises. So, in general, I was satisfied, there was a bit of conditioning, stretching, and nice relaxation. And it was quite fun to try a bit of ‘hanging upside down’ yoga! Definitely a nice thing to do from time to time, and I’m sure many will find a very satisfying exercise!

I believe the choice of exercises depends a lot on a person leading the class, it can be more relaxing or more tough.

The hammock are waiting:)

I can give you some examples of the excersises:

  • there were (mostly stretching) exercises where you lie down in the hammock (which is a large and extremely soft piece of fabric) pulling legs towards your face, or arching your back and then bending into a foetal position while lying on your side, etc (it’s so difficult to describe :lol: )
  • sitting inside exercises (mostly stretching also), like straddle stretch;
  • standing in the hammock doing warrior poses (that’s extremely tough, makes the legs cry for help 🙂 );
  • hanging upside down with hammock wrapped around the hips both for stretching the back and boing abs exercises;
  • standing on the floor and using the hammock for balance while doing warriors again, or having it whapped around an ankle to pull the leg back into a dancers stretch or slide into a split;
  • etc.

So, to bottom-line it, these classes feel extremely nice, being wrapped in the nice soft fabric, hanging upside down, listening to some relaxing music. It’s seriously great for relaxation and can be physically tough. I wasn’t extremely challenging and quite fun, I would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy yoga to spice things up 🙂

I’ve tried these classes in Uppsala in Uppsala Danscenter.
