Acroyoga

Somehow I only managed to find one picture (above) and one insta video of me taking an acroyoga class πŸ™‚ To be fair, I only took a course of 8 weeks once, and tried some stuff when one or other of my gymnastics friend had some experience in it (see the video on the right), so beginner is my level here πŸ˜€

But the things people do in acroyoga are honestly pretty awesome. Here are just some random YouTube examples: video1 and video2. However, I would like to say that (at the beginning at least) it’s quite doable and easier than it looks πŸ™‚ Of course, further cool things require a lot of practice!

It looks way nicer when the flyer is flexible, of course (and I am quite flexible which makes it easier for me), but it’s by no means a requirement! And anyone can be both the flyer and the base (I quite enjoyed being base from time to time, even though I’m quite small πŸ™‚ )

As I’ve said before, I usually prefer more ‘cardio’ activities (which require jumping, running, etc), but acro yoga is very fun. It’s really enjoyable and satisfying to try to balance without falling on your face or dropping your partner down.

The classes don’t require coming in pairs, you can also go alone (as I did). Then people are usually grouped together in 3 or 4s so that there are some people spotting the ones who are trying the moves.

The body size is also not as important as it seems πŸ™‚ Of course, it’s easier for a larger and stronger person to lift a lighter one, but I based some large and heavy guys and it was fine. After all, legs are the strongest limbs πŸ˜€

It also requires some fun teamwork, since one needs to hold the other and it only works if both are working hard for it. Despite appearances, it’s an equally tough tasks. Then she spotters should be able to catch the falling flyer before he or she collapses on the base πŸ™‚ So, whether you know each other at the beginning or not, you’ll have some nice social time at these classes πŸ™‚
